Give me a cup to fill
For the dam in me eyes has busted.
Let nothing be wasted
so I will drink up the salty water
to remind meself, it is okay not to be okay.
I’ve been strong for everyone except one.
But not today.
Give me a cup to fill
I thirst for something un-sweet
Perhaps taking un-sweet will make life sweet
Though sweet things kill, they say
But sweet tooth or not
Death is the only exit out of this world.
Give me a cup to fill
Perhaps if I talk wrong I can blame it on the booze.
My maths ain’t good so pray tell,
what number qualifies as long life?
75, 85, 100???
If 100 is long, what about 1000?
Or do numbers stop counting after 100?
Give me a cup to fill
And don’t tell me "be a man."
I would have said wear my shoes
but your itch could be worse.
So let me wear my pain like a battle armour
Not to stand and fight
But to show that being weak is not a weakness
Even the man of steel has his kryptonite moments.
Signed
Olumide Holloway (King Olulu)
