One of my favourite film of all time is Sicario (2015).
Sicario is a Spanish/ Mexican slang for Assassin.
The film is gritty and brutal.
There is no unnecessary martial art fight scenes. The effectiveness of the action scenes are as simple as, "if you are gonna shoot, shoot...don't talk."
Within the first seven minutes of the film you are treated to a "meaningful" bloody action sequence that sets the tone for the film.
The key word in my last statement is - meaningful. It was not a bloody action sequence for action film sake. It was an essential part of the film.
Side note: Martial art in Nigerian action movies are good to have, for cinematic effects. But, most times it's unrealistic, and unnecessary.
There is a particular action scene in Sicario that occurred in traffic during the transfer of a prisoner from Mexico to USA. That scene was bloody and beautiful.
And the closing scenes:
The family dinner scene - well, "Las las, na everybody go chop breakfast (Burna Boy)." This time dinner (not breakfast) was served, permanently.
Sign or Suicide - that was cold, unkind, unfeeling, and wicked. But that's why me likey likey.
"You should move to a small town...you will not survive here. You are not a Wolf, and this is the land of Wolves now."
Sicario..... gritty, brutal, bloody and beautiful.
