The film, "Plane," is a good film.
I repeat, Plane is a good film.
I liked the ruthlessness of the prisoner, Gaspare.
I liked the hesitation of Captain Brodie to kill.
I liked the efficiency of Shellback.
I loved the part of the sniper, those were my best scenes.
The film is enjoyable.
But, it's not memorable.
At least for me, it's not a film that I would want to watch again.
And these are my reasons:
The four passengers that died had nothing at stake. What I mean is, there was no emotional connection to them. Apart from the arresting officer and the hostess, does anyone know the names of the couple that got killed?
Secondly, it was too convenient that Captain Brodie could easily connect the wires and make phone calls. There was nothing mentioned in his background that he could easily recall numbers, or that he was an electrical expert. An expert pilot, who is good with chokeholds, yes, we saw that. But we were unaware of his numerical and technical skills.
Ok, so how else would he have gotten word out about their whereabouts?
Well, I like the discovery of the video recorder, and the fact that it showed the videos of previous hostages talking about ransome demands. That means the videos were sent out via an internet connection. That's an angle that could have been explored.
Thirdly, the end of the film reminds me so much of the book by Bernadine Evaristo titled, Mr Lover Man. This is because, everyone got what they wanted. At least, all the characters we got to know, got what they wanted. These are as follows:
The Captain gets to live to see his daughter again
The co-pilot, Dele, suffered no harm and will see his family again.
The prisoner, Gaspare, got to escape. And not just escape, he went away rich.
The mercenaries, Shellback and co., saved the day with little or no casualties. None died, only one got kissed by a bullet.
The hostages (aka surviving passengers), got saved. All the passengers that appeared in three scenes or more, survived the gunfight.
The Airline owners got their plane back, they suffered little or no loss. Insurance will take care of the rest.
And lastly, the plane will fly again. Despite all the firepower rained on it, the plane survived the onslaught. Well, that's why the film is called, Plane.
Over all, it's a good film.
I repeat, it's a good film.
